Have you ever wondered what you’d do if you were surrounded by a pack of vicious gangbangers wanting to take your money, your property and even your dignity?

This is not a pleasant thought, I know. But I’m a realist.

And I know, from FBI statistics and other sources available to the general public, that this very thing happens every day of the week, all over the world — in big cities and small towns alike.

The good news is, there’s actually something you can do when faced with a mass attack. Even if you’re not much of a fighter or only weigh 95 lbs.

And that is to simply find something — anything, no matter how blunt, small or seemingly insignificant — you can use as a weapon.

Here’s why:

Finding a weapon can immediately “even the odds” in a fight and literally mean the difference between life and death for you. I don’t care how many people you’re attacked by or where your skill levels are at.

It is the one true “equalizer” that will make people more cautious (and less likely) to attack you.

Plus, You can use almost any object as a weapon.

Including your keys, belt, some scrap garbage, a rolled up magazine (the spine of the average magazine is usually hard enough to break bones), broken bottle or even an ordinary fountain pen.

The key is to know how to use objects as weapons, which is not complicated and can be learned within minutes.

Bottom line:

Having a weapon — no matter how small or unusual — dramatically increases your chances of surviving and walking away in one piece if your back is to the wall and there’s no way out.

When you or your family are surveying the market for a fantastic price on Dishwashers, buying on the internet can be a nice approach to conserve precious time and cash. If you’re tired of forcing yourself around high-street retail shop after high street store browsing for your brand spanking new dishwasher then why not hop on your computer and get on line and begin browsing.

You very much should constantly purchase from options you trust, even so, when presented with a large array of strange companies on the world wide web selecting can often be arduous. A terrific practice to stave off purchasing from erratic options is to shop with on line options which additionally have a prevalent physical location. You very much should of course be sure to properly look over the terms and conditions of any websites you are really pondering acquiring your dishwasher from.

Another way to spot a trust-worthy online shop when surveying the marketplace for quality dishwashers is to check whether the site own an impartial and good buyers guide. Consulting a buyers guide can furthermore bring out a worrying number of points you will not have ordinarily thought of if you were just buying without help and advice. The aforementioned might often include; energy consumption, additional features and storage capacity amongst other things. Searching the web for top brand dishwashers on poor quality sites is a waste of your time.

Be wary of hidden charges - VAT and delivery fees that are added on at the payment stage might oftentimes alter that first unbelievable price that you found for your dishwasher into something startlingly unremarkable.

a scattering of internet options are also quicker than others - if the speed at which you receive your families new dishwasher is really not an issue then this will probably not bother you very much at all. Still, if you would rather not be manually scrubbing the knifes and forks and pans over Xmas then you will probably wish to pick a store who gives you guaranteed home-delivery times.

Dishwashers can commonly look the business when they are in a display room or on a website but wind up disappointed when they reaches your families house. So be certain to check the returns policy of the web-site you are ordering from.

Just a few calories ago, the government revised the food pyramid. You can see it at http://www.mypyramid.gov/
It has a snazzy new logo with a stick figure dashing up the Steps To a Healthier You on the side of the pyramid. It’s supposed to be in better tune with our complicated modern life, the latest Scientific Thought, and reflect a customized pyramid which better fits our lifestyle, not that there’s anything wrong with that. They have an animation, a mini-poster for the art-impaired, and, “a wealth of ideas to help you get started to a healthier diet.”

In better tune - with modern life? Then why a pyramid? Isn’t that Egypto-elitist? Doesn’t that perhaps reflect a suspect cash infusion from the travel industry? How many people will EVER run up a pyramid? And if they do, why aren’t they carrying a six pack of bottled water? “Water, the Almost Food.” Because the water lobby is weak, that’s why.

See, that’s what’s wrong with government - no big thinkers. All around us we see sellouts and commercialization: Product placement; Endorsements; Co-promotions; Synergism! But does the government see this? Noooo. Instead of cribbing money from this or that entitlement program, why not some good old entrepreneurship in our leadership! What do you think McDonalds would pay to have that stickfigure run up the GOLDEN ARCHES?

But I wonder if the Department of Food thought this through? There could be a stickfigure of a mom in a stick minivan (note: sell van logo) or a guy carrying a laptop (note: sell computer logo) racing to catch a train (note: place Amtrak logo), while talking on his cellphone (note: sell cellphone logo). Boggles the mind, doesn’t it? THINK of the monetization possibilities which could all go to reducing the budget deficit!

And while we are free-thinking here, why not go wild and sell advertising space on the one, five and ten dollar bill? Some court is going to strike down In God We Trust anyway. Consider: “Reach Out and Touch Someone - AT&T.” Wouldn’t they pay a billion for umpteen gazillion impressions? And here’s the best part - those bills have a limited lifetime. The treasury is ALWAYS taking old worn out ones out of the supply and printing new ones. How many OTHER advertisers would wait in LINE? What do you think Target would pay to replace that odd eye and triangle with the Target logo bullseye? And why show an old building on the rear of the $10? Why not show the latest Las Vegas resort? Keep the Eagle. What do you think PETSMART would pay for a little banner?

But back to the Food Pyramid. Why not monetize “calories”? What would McDonalds pay to change the word to “McNutrients?”

Of course, we’d need an Office of Promotional Tie-In. I think $500,000,000 would get it kick started. Hey, why do we need zeros? They could just as well be tiny Target logos.

This is the next installment in a world of incredibly fun sports games played with dice. In the first installment I taught you how to play the college version of “Dice Football”. That was the simplest of all my dice sports games. Now it is time to start getting a little more complex. As, in all my dice football games you will need two dice, notebook paper and a pen or pencil.

You will recall that in the college version you got your box score set up so that you can begin the game and just take turns for four quarters. In the pro version the top team is always the home team and they always go first in the first and third quarters only. In the second and fourth quarters the visitor team goes first which allows the home team the advantage of “coming back” to win.

Both teams will only get three rolls of the two dice per quarter–instead of the five rolls per team in the college version. This discrepancy in rolls is due to the fact that it is much harder to score points in the pros than it is in college football. Oddly enough, it is also harder to shut out a pro team than a college team. That will be reflected in the field goal section below. You always allow the two teams to make their rolls (3) in the quarter all at once. In short, both teams roll two dice three times for each quarter of the game. Remember, the home team goes first in the first and third quarters only!

Just like in the college game scoring occurs when the two dice hit “doubles”. That is a touchdown and it’s worth six points. For the extra point you would roll two dice also–unlike the single one dice roll in college. If the dice roll results in “snake-eyes” (a pair of ones), the extra point is missed. Remember, you get three rolls of two dice per quarter per team.

Just as in the college game field goals can be attempted whenever one roll of dice results in a total of either a ten (4 & 6) or eleven (5 & 6). At that point you roll one dice to see if the field goal is good. When you attempt a field goal in the pro game and you roll a one, two, three, or four the field goal is good. Roll a five or six and that means you missed.

This is an example of how the pro game can break down. The home team rolls the dice two times before a pair of “fives” result…Touchdown! The home team rolls one dice and it results in a four…extra point is good–seven points total. The visitor then takes two rolls before rolling an eleven, which is a field goal attempt. He then rolls a two which means that the field goal is good. The total score at the end of the first quarter is home-7, visitors-3.

Neither team scores again until the fourth quarter. The visitor goes first and rolls once before rolling a ten. He rolls a six on his field goal attempt which means that he missed. Then he rolls doubles on his third and last toss and makes a successful extra point roll. His final score in the game is 10 points. Then the home team rolls three times and scores “doubles” on his last roll. He makes the extra point and wins the game with a final score of 14 to 10.

If the score ends in a tie just alternate one roll of two dice between the two teams until someone scores. In the next article I’ll teach you about handicapping the college and pro football dice games which allows you to play entire seasons and get “real-time” results. Till then, keep on rolling.

Buying jewelry at auctions can be exciting and you could get a good deal but auctions are risky. Especially onilne auctions like ones found on eBay. We will talk about information to arm yourself when thinking of buying jewelry at auctions.

In online auction settings check the sellers ratings and feedback. This will tell you a lot about them. Look for someone that has lots of good feedback and a high rating. If they have a lot of complaints and negative feedback, stay away from them. Also if it’s not a major auction site like eBay, look into them more. See if they have had any problems and what their track record is.

Make sure when your buying expensive jewelry they you try and get some sort of paperwork that certifies the quality of the gemstones. Ask them for more photos or any questions you have about the piece. They should be somewhat knowledgeable on the piece. If they are reluctant to give you more information, you should not even bid on the item and look somewhere else.

Check the better business bureau on companies that sell jewelry through auctions. If they want you to pay by wire transfer or western union don’t. Scammers use this tactic. Use credit cards or paypal to purchase jewelry at auctions. Try and avoid sending checks or money order. With credit cards or paypal you have at least some protection if something should go wrong.

See what they charge for shipping. Some sellers may add big shipping charges that are unnecessary. Also see where they are located. Sellers not in the united states can be hard to track down and get a refund or whatever action needs to be taken.

Offline auctions are not that common. Definitely not as easy as online ones either. If you know of auctions in your area, go to them. Check it out. Get a feel of how the process works. Go to a couple, ask questions possibly register and get a bidding card.

Offline auctions have the same rules for jewelry. Take a look at the quality of the gemstones, craftsmanship and bring a jewelers loupe or magnifying glass of some sorts if you really want to check out the jewelry. Look it over carefully. If you have a description before the offline auction, try and find comparable items online. See what those prices are.

Hall Of Martial Arts27 Dec 2008 06:43 pm

So you’ve finally decided to take the plunge and take up a martial art. Maybe you’re doing so as a hobby or maybe you feel the need to be able to defend yourself. To be honest with you, there’s a myriad of reasons one can have for wanting to study a martial art and recognizing those reasons is the most important determining factor. There is no one right martial art there is only the right one for you. Hopefully this article will help you understand the differences of each martial art and allow you to make a more educated decision.

The first thing you need to do when choosing a martial art is to figure out all the reasons you may have for doing so. Is your sole reason for taking up a martial art to get in shape? If so you may find more benefits in any of the various forms of kickboxing. Their classes tend to be fast paced and also usually include skipping and calisthenics. In addition to getting in shape you will also learn to effectively punch and kick which not only will give you self confidence but will also allow you to be able to defend yourself.

Maybe you’re looking to be able to do the fantastical kicks and moves you see all the action heroes doing in your favorite movies. Or would you just like to be able to do something that reassembles dancing or seems more artistic? If so you’re better tailored to Kung-fu or more particularly Wushu, one of the more popular forms of kung-fu. Whether it is, Jet- Li, Jackie Chan or even Bruce Lee for that matter they all studied Wushu! This art consists of weapons training as well as flashy kicking and even lion dance training.

A lot of people that get into martial arts once were participants in competitive sports and seem to miss that aspect of their lives. Although there are many Martial arts that may fit this bill, I tend to recommend, Karate and Taekwondo. The reason I chose these arts is due to the fact that both Karate and Taekwondo have tournaments based around semi-contact point fighting and weapons demonstrations. Point fighting is unlike real fighting in the sense that as soon as someone lands a strike, you stop fighting and start over again. There is less chance of injury and these competitions are less spirited and aggressive then full contact tournaments. In a weapons competition you formulate an individual routine with your weapon of choice and have an allotted time frame to complete your routine. These competitions are a lot like a gymnastics or dance recital.

Last but certainly not least are the people who would like to learn how to effectively defend themselves in real life situations. The 2 most respected martial arts in my opinion for self defense are Krav Maga and Jiu-jitsu. Both these arts consists of weapons training, defense against weapons, throws, joint manipulations and striking. What more can you need? The realism in these classes is what truly separates them from other martial arts. Not only do you practice each technique against a resisting partner but you spar at 100% at least 3 times per week. In other words you’ll be fully prepared for an attack because you deal with real life scenarios each class.

The most important aspect of choosing your martial art, is really finding the one that will give you the most satisfaction in the long run. Millions of people can tell you that any one particular martial art is the greatest but unless you enjoy it, you will not continue. When you feel you’ve found the right martial art, flip through your local phone book and find some locations that offer a free trial class. This way you’ll really know what you’re getting into before making a commitment.

In the middle 1990’s everyone started talking about needing a website. Now, the new “must have” is a web log or blog. While blogs can come in all shapes and sizes, a blog is just a very simple way to publish a journal, record of events, thoughts, ideas or whatever the author wants to write about. A blog sits on a website - whether that site is run by you or managed by a company that will “host” your blog.

Blogs started coming into the general public’s awareness with a large number of political blogs written during the 2004 U.S. Presidential election campaign. Because of this, you may think blogging is part journalism and part political commentary, and therefore not of interest to you or the advancement of your business.

Blogs can be journalism. They can be political commentary. They can be personal diaries or journals. They can also be way for you to show your uniqueness and build a conversation around your business and professional interests. That is how I use mine.

Technically Speaking

Because blogs are designed to be easily updated and are already on a website (don’t worry you don’t need to know ANYTHING about websites or web design to start one), you may find a blog could replace or supplement an email newsletter. They are easier to do, easier to update, and you don’t have to worry about emails getting delivered!

If you already have a website, adding a blog can help you get more visitors who are interested in you because you will be writing about your area of expertise. And since the search engines love websites that are tightly focused and updated often, your site can move up quickly in the search rankings.

There are plenty of places to learn much more about the technical aspects of blogs and blogging. Just do your own search on Google (or your favorite search engine) to get the latest information.

How You Can Benefit

Let’s say you are an insurance agent. You have expertise in life insurance and a specific set of benefits you bring to your Clients. A blog gives you a platform to talk about the latest ideas related to life insurance and life planning. You can give Clients (and potential Clients) tips and checklists. You can give them new ideas. You can relate the latest news to your products and services. The ideas are endless; these are just meant to be a start.

Of course, if you aren’t in life insurance you change the topics - but the premise and the benefits remain the same. While there are many, here are three specific benefits you will find:

Getting to know you. The blog becomes a part of how you brand yourself. If people read it, they should feel like they are getting to know you and getting to know what your beliefs and values are. Imagine your best referral sources sending potential referrals to your blog as a way to help them get to know you deeper, faster. In this way your blog can be leverage - people are even more qualified if they call you or may already “know” you when you they make the referral call.

Making it easier. Have Clients that love you but have trouble knowing what to say about you? Encourage them to send their friends and colleagues to your blog as a way to make the connection. That way they don’t have to feel like they have to say the perfect words about your business in order to give the referral.

Keeps you “on top” of your game. By writing about your work and the benefits of your products and services often, you will stay current and fresh. This will help in all phases of your business, but it will also help you in networking situations by giving you something fresh and new to talk about when having conversations with possible Clients and new referrals. It also gives you new ideas to share with potential Clients as you build your relationship with them.

How It Has Helped Me

I started blogging in March of 2004. I have certainly gained the benefits described above. Beyond those, I have made new connections with potential colleagues and collaborators who have found my blog and sent me comments, feedback or questions.

By writing regularly (my goal is 4 entries or “posts” per week), seldom does a week go by that I don’t add someone to my network or use what I am writing to make a new connection with an existing or potential Client.

How to Get Started

Lots more can be said about blogging and how it might help you build your network, but this should give you some initial ideas. Hopefully after reading this you are intrigued by the possibilities and would like to learn more.

Here are the first four things I recommend that you do:

1. Start reading some blogs. Do a search in Google for blogs. If you are a chiropractor, search on chiropractic blogs. If you are a graphic designer, search on graphic design blogs. You get the idea. Read what others are doing and writing about. Email them and build your network with these people. Chances are they aren’t your competitors and they might be very willing to help you and perhaps even collaborate with you.

2. Learn About RSS. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is one way to “publish” your blog to the world. There are many free RSS readers that you can use to keep track of the blogs you are starting to read. Pick one (there are many) by searching for “Free RSS Reader” in your favorite search engine.

3. Read Debbie Weil. Debbie is an expert on blogging for business and she will be a good connection for you.

4. Start one! You can (and will want to) build a strategy and a plan later, but if you see value for you, jump in! Go to http://blogger.com (what I use) and get started in less than five minutes for free.

The world is full of rings; phone rings, earrings, silver rings, gold rings, engagement rings and, of course, promise rings. Usually, a promise ring is given as an outward and physical expression of a promise that is made between two people. . This ring is usually worn on the ring finger of the left hand and is usually not as expensive as an engagement ring.

The concept of promise rings may seem to be something new and original, but mythology and sacred writings prove otherwise. Rings have always been used to seal promises. However, they were not always called promise rings; this name became popular during the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe as rings were exchanged to show friendship between two people. Amongst the promise rings, the scribbling rings were the most famous as these rings were set with uncut diamonds that were used by lovers to etch romantic vows on windowpanes. Another common type of promise ring was the poesy ring, which was an engraved band with various promises and sentiments that were given to a lover or dear friend.

Depending upon the budget and the situation, different types of promise rings are available. There are diamond promise rings, gold promise rings, titanium promise rings, silver promise rings and white gold promise rings. Those who have a small budget need not back out of giving a promise ring, as there are also inexpensive promise rings available. However, the most important rule in giving a promise ring is to be clear about the terms of the promise; this clarity will avoid heartbreaks due to a person reading more than intended in the ring, especially if the ring contains a diamond. To avoid complications, a simple note accompanying the ring should be sufficient.

Promise Rings provides detailed information on Promise Rings, Diamond Promise Rings, Meaning Of Promise Rings, Titanium Promise Rings and more. Promise Rings is affiliated with Best Prom Dress.

One of the best ways that you can personalize your embroidery and make it stand out among others is to add dimension to your technique. Dimension in embroidery brings your piece to life and adds style, personality, and a 3-D quality that is uniquely your own.

And contrary to what you may think, adding dimension does not require intricate and complicated stitching such as stumpwork or other techniques used in dimensional embroidery. If you can embroider, you can add dimension to your work with just a few simple techniques.

Here’s how:

Use different thread weights. Using multiple weights of thread will give your embroidered piece dimension and depth that cannot be achieved with patterns using all the same thread weight. A heavier weight thread results in denser embroidery and shadows, where a lighter weight thread results in a light, delicate pattern. By blending these two together, you can add dimension without leaving your canvas. While it may sound simple, it can take a few tries to find the perfect harmony between your threads so that the embroidery will look natural.

Use different colors of thread to create shadow. Three-dimensional images have shadows, and one of the best ways that you can make your embroidery seem three dimensional is to embroider shadows into your design. You can do this by selecting darker shades of the color of thread that you are using and graduating the darker colors on your embroidery to create the effect of natural shadow. For lighter colors, you can use two to three darker, graduated colors; for darker colors, you can use up to five darker shades of graduation. Practice using these darker shades on your sampler until you achieve a natural looking shadow. It may take a few tries, but once you get the hang of it, you will acquire an eye for placing the shadows perfectly.

Use textured threads. Wool threads, pearl threads and silk threads all achieve a different result when used in embroidery. By combining several different textures into your embroidery, you can easily achieve a dimensional image. For example: light, airy threads would be ideal for delicate patterns such as flowers, whereas coarse, textured threads would be ideal for creating structures such as buildings and houses.

In addition to these simple ways to add dimension to your embroidery, you can also use different stitches to create different effects. By closely matching your stitching style to the type of image that you want to create for each aspect of your piece, you can add a great deal of texture and dimension.

Don’t be afraid to incorporate several different types of stitching, threads and patterns to achieve the desired result. By using more variations, you will create an embroidered design that is uniquely your own and full of dimension. The best pieces trick the eye and give the viewer a little surprise of detail each time they see it.
